Chinchoti waterfall trek near Vasai/Naigaon, Mumbai

image

Chinchoti waterfall near Vasai/Naigaon(east), is a boon to trekker in the monsoon months. It is located at about 90 mins trek(6/7 km) from chinchoti phata on western express highway. There is a couple of km of road leading up to the foothills, from where one can start if you have your own vehicle. The trek is of moderate intensity, it is through lush green forested area. You end up crossing the stream a few times before reaching the fall.

How to reach there?

  • If you have a vehicle then you can take the Chinchoti phata on Western Express Highway.
  • If you are relying on public transport, then get down at Naigaon station on Western railway. Cross over to east, from there share autos are available for Rs 20 per head.

What to carry?

Make sure you carry enough food and water with you. There are no foodstalls near the falls.

The current near the fall is powerful, so necessary precautions needs to be taken when venturing out. If, you cross the main fall stream there is another fall at the top,  I have posted the pics below .

For the faint hearted you can enjoy the small falls a bit downstream from the main fall.

All in all its a enjoyable trek for a day, away from the city, which should cost less than Rs200 per head if using public transport.
