Thoseghar waterfalls are a series of tall waterfalls located about 26
km from Satara, Maharashtra. The height of the waterfall is disputed between 350m to 500m, if 500m then that could make them the tallest waterfalls in the country.
My 2nd day in Satara started with visit to this fall, there is a 9.00 am ST from the stand which takes you to the base of the falls, from there one has to pay an entry fee of Rs10 to enter the waterfall area, there are 3 waterfalls one can view from the viewing platform created to watch the falls. Needless to say the views are breath-taking, of the falls and the valley below.
This place also has a lot of butterflies and wild
flowering plants, I was able to spot Karvi flower bloom, this particular flower blooms every 7 years. Also I spotted a few butterflies including a bamboo treebrown.
There is also a museum to see in the premise
which has information regarding local flora and fauna. There are smaller waterfalls after passing through the main 3 falls views.
Nearby places of interest is Chalkewadi wind farms which are windmills dotted all across the route towards Thoseghar and ahead for about 4 km. Also Sajjangad is also on the same route.
